The Importance of Bibi Masooma Qum (a.s) in Islam

The importance of Bibi Masooma Qum (a.s) in Islam

Iran is known for its sacred places where Muslims from across the globe visit for Ziarat purposes. Being the centre of attraction due to its religious history makes Iran one of the most important destinations for the pilgrims. The renowned sacred destination in the country is the shrine of Bibi Masooma Qum in the city of Qum. This noble personality received the title of Lady Fatimah Masooma from her brother following her demise. She holds significant importance in Islam because of her religious teachings and her struggle for Islam. She is also famous for her true image as the reflection of her grandmother Bibi Fatima (a.s) in her devoutness.

45 Years before the birth of Sayyida Masooma Qum, the sixth Imam, Imam Jafar e Sadiq (a.s) predicted that a lady from his lineage will be laid to rest in the city of Qum. She was also famous for attending to the queries of pilgrims, at the age of only six years, while her father Imam Musa Kazim (a.s) was not available. This immense knowledge of Islam being received from her father, ads up to her importance in Islam.

Amongst the teachers and scholars, there has been a debate regarding the names and titles of Bibi Masooma and in particular, refer to the differentiation between her name at birth and at demise. The other title she received was Karimat Ahl al-Bayt which means the noble of the family of the prophet. Her importance is also reflected from the fact that she became an Alimah because of her command over the knowledge likewise his brother Imam Ali Raza (a.s). She described Hadith, customs, and traditions from the prophet and his Ahlul Bayt in a pious and noble way.

Another important aspect that glorifies and defines her bond with the religion of Islam is the immense love of Bibi Fatimah Masooma for her brother Imam Ali Raza (a.s). It has been referred to as equivalent and reminds of the love of her Aunt Bibi Zainab (a.s) for her brother Imam Hussain (a.s). These associations invariably allow us to draw parallels between Bibi Masooma Qum and Bibi Fatimah Zehra (a.s).

Besides her countless struggle and work for the religion of Islam, another important title that she received was Mariam Aale Muhammad which means Like Lady Marium (a.s) from the progeny of the Prophet, Bibi Masooma Qum was also a saintly, ascetic lady with total dedication to Allah. On her way to Khurasan to meet her brother, she was being poisoned in between and this great personality was being laid to rest in the city of Qum.

Ziarat Bibi Masooma Qum

Apart from hosting the shrine for Ziarat Bibi Masooma Qum, the city also received great significance as a stronghold for religious teachings. Najaf and Qum till date are the two sacred places for learning and receiving a certified qualification in Religious teachings. Because of its importance, it attracts many scholars and aspiring students to study further on the religious aspects and broaden their horizon. This is the true blessing of the Bibi Fatimah Masooma e Qum, that the city still shines on the essence of Islamic teachings.
