Youm e Ashura – A lesson for all Muslims

Youm e Ashura

The day of Ashura is a day of mourning for millions of Muslims around the globe. This day reminds of the calamity that befell upon Imam Hussain Ibn e Ali (a.s) and his family in the land of Karbala. Imam Hussain (a.s) along with his family and his companions were surrounded by the army of the ignorant and tyrant ruler, Yazeed (L.A), who ordered the massacre of the beloved grandson of the Prophet (P.B.U.H). The history also enlists a 6 months old infant son of Imam Hussain (a.s) in the martyrs of Karbala, who was laid to rest by an arrow bigger than the size of His (a.s) body. After the brutal massacre of Imam Hussain (a.s), the oppressed army set the camps on fire while taking the households as prisoners. The struggle of Imam Hussain (a.s) incorporates a list of lessons for the Muslims to take the lead from. We have chosen 4 lessons below:

Oneness of God:

Imam Hussain (a.s) stood for Tawhid and conveyed the message through his acts that there is only one God. He stood against the tyranny and oppression of the army ten times bigger than the faithful at the side of Imam Hussain (a.s). His (a.s) belief in the Oneness of Allah is a lesson for Muslims, that no matter what the circumstances we should worship one God.

Repentance:

The commander of the ignorant army named Hurr (a.s), who blocked the way of Imam Hussain (a.s) when He (a.s) was on his way to Kufa, switched to the side of Imam (a.s) just moments before Ashura. He (a.s) neglected the materialistic gain for the love of Ahlul Bayt (a.s) and asked for the repentance of Imam Hussain (a.s). This is a lesson for all the Muslims that it’s never too late to repent for your wrong actions.

Be Patience:

Imam Hussain (a.s) showcased an instrumental leadership in the battle of Karbala. When one after another companion started receiving the status of the martyr of Karbala, Imam Hussain (a.s) remained patient for the blessing of Allah. The utmost test of His (a.s) patience was when his young son Ali Akbar (a.s) went for the battle and got martyred by the oppression of the ignorants. This is a lesson that we should remain patient and remember Allah in all of our acts.

Defense of Truth:

Islam is a religion that has its building blocks based on the principals of truth. Imam Hussain (a.s) being a proponent of spreading truthfulness, stood up for the religion of Islam. He sacrificed everything that he had in order to protect the religion of Islam. This is a lesson that we should always be a strong proponent of spreading truth rather than falsehood. This will also lead to numerous blessings of Allah.

The above are the lessons that we as Muslims should take from the event of Karbala. Imam Hussain (a.s) gave everything in the way of Allah to protect Islam and to receive the blessings of Allah. We should learn from the actions of Imam Hussain (a.s) that saved the religion of Islam.
